Little Things Café – A Review of Their Coffee

A midweek coffee adventure to the Bach had to be cancelled as we forgot to book a place. Disheartened but not having given up the search for good coffee, we continued along to the town centre until we finally reached Little Things Café. Walking in, I had expected things to be, well, little. But my disappointed in not being served in mini cups and saucers was made up for by the coffee and cupcakes. I visited Little Things Café on 14th October 2020.

Fun Fact; the café is named after the owners belief in enjoying the little things in life. She wants people to take time out to really indulge in the little things such as sitting in a café with a friend or family while enjoying a nice warm cup of coffee with a cake. I strongly agree with. In todays competitive world where everyone is running a rat race, we tend to forget to take a step back and enjoy or make time for the little things. Sometimes, these smaller moments bring a lot more happiness, joy and fulfilment than a million dollars.

Ambience
Small sized cafe with not much seating but a nice enough atmosphere. It’s situated along one of the roads leading to Overgate so it doesn’t have the best of views. There is limited seating so it might be best to book in advance to secure a spot. The staff are delightful and very friendly, making sure to greet every customer. We spent a good three hours at this café and we even got to try their prototype seasonal latte, on the house!
7/10

Aroma
Distinct nutty and caramel smell. Made me very excited to try the coffee!
9/10

Flat white

Presentation
Dark pastel blue coloured cups and saucers with a neat leaf pattern.
8/10

Body and Taste
Light to medium bodied with a very low acidic profile. The coffee is well balanced with a delicate lean texture but a little baked. Sweet aftertaste that makes me happy to have had the coffee.
7/10

Cost
£2.70 for a flat white. I’ve come to realize that most coffee shops here in Dundee price their espresso coffee’s around £2-£3.
7/10

Their amazing cupcake!

The Verdict
Before I give a summary of my trip, I would like to say – TRY THEIR CUPCAKES! Priced at £2.70, they are an absolute treat. They alone are worth a visit. With that said, I did enjoy my afternoon here. An extra shot in your flat white is recommended if you enjoy the stronger, slightly acidic taste of coffee.
Overall score = 38/50 or 76%
